The government has mandated for all individuals in India to link their Pan cards with their Aadhar cards. The process to check the same has been explained in this blog. The taxpayers have to get their Aadhar cards linked with their PAN cards by 30 June 2023. If a taxpayer fails to do so then he will have to pay a penalty of rs 1000 before linking their Aadhar to their PAN.
Also, in case of feeling to do so the pan cards will become inoperative from 1 July, 2023 onwards. Let us discuss the process to check Aadhar card and PAN card Link status. There are various ways to check the Aadhar Card and PAN card Link status online. These are listed below:
In case, your Aadhar card is already linked with your PAN card then, a message stating 'your pan is already linked to the given Aadhar' will be shown.
In case, the request for aadhaar-PAN link has been sent to the UIDAI, then the message stating your 'Aadhaar-PAN linking request has been sent to UIDAI for validation. Check the status later by clicking on 'link aadhaar status' status on home page.' will appear on the screen.
In case, Aadhar is not linked with the PAN card, then a message stating 'PAN not I am not linked with aadhaar. Please click on 'link Aadhar' to link your Aadhar with PAN' will be displayed.
If your Aadhar card is already linked with your pan card, then a message stating 'Aadhar is already associated with PAN number in ITD database. Thank you for using our services.' will be shown.
In case the PAN card and the Aadhar Card have not been linked, the message stating 'Aadhar is not associated with the PAN in ITD database. Thank you for using our services.' will be shown.
The steps to link your Aadhar to your PAN have been listed below:
Aadhar-PAN linking is free till 31st March 2022, but a penalty of rs 500 will be imposed on individuals who link their aadhaar card and PAN card after 31st March but before 30 June 2022. After this a penalty of rs. 1000 will be imposed on the individuals for not linking the PAN card and Aadhar card.
As per the guidelines of Section 139AA of the Income Tax Act, any taxpayer who possesses a PAN card must link it to his/her Aadhar card. This should be done before 30 June 2023 in order to avoid any sort of penalties and to prevent the PAN card from becoming inoperative.
However, NRIs and Indian citizens above the age of 80 years and the residents of Meghalaya, Jammu and Kashmir and Assam do not need to link their Aadhar card with their PAN card ,since they belong to the exempt category.
